Kineo Blue Academy · Maldives only

Learn the ocean from the people who know it best.

A coached ocean academy in the Maldives. Build real open water confidence, learn to surf the atolls' reef breaks, earn an internationally recognised freediving certification, and — in a later stage — learn to race two-person dinghies with RYA-qualified coaches.

Small groups · Professional coaches · Safety cover on every session

Your pathway

Start where you are. Go as deep as you like.

Each discipline follows a clear progression, so you can come back year after year and keep building.

Step 1

Discover

Build comfort and technique in calm lagoon water with your coach alongside.

Step 2

Certify

Earn your first certification: AIDA 2 or Molchanovs Wave 1 for freediving, or a coached open water swim milestone.

Step 3

Progress

Go further: AIDA 3 / Wave 2 depth training, or longer swims along the outer reef.

Step 4

Perform

Advanced freediving (AIDA 4 / Wave 3) or race-prep weeks before Oceanman Maldives and the Malé Open.

Safety first, always

Professional standards on every session

The ocean is the classroom, so safety is built into every part of the Academy.

  • Qualified coaches certified by AIDA, Molchanovs or the RYA for the discipline they teach
  • Small groups with low coach-to-guest ratios
  • Escort cover: kayaks, paddleboards or a safety boat on every open water swim
  • Buddy system and a safety freediver on every freediving line
  • Medical and experience check before every booking
  • Conditions briefing on currents, tides and weather each morning

When to go

Plan around the ocean's seasons

December – April (typical)

Calm and clear

Usually the calmest, clearest water of the year, ideal for swim camps and freediving.

April

Oceanman Maldives

Race-prep weeks before the international open water race in Maafushi, Kaafu Atoll.

August

Malé Open

Train with us, then race the Maldives' largest local open water event in Malé.

March – October (typical)

Surf season

The southwest swell brings the most consistent waves to the atolls' reef breaks, the best time for surf camps.

Questions

Good to know

Do I need to be a strong swimmer?

For swim camps, you should be able to swim 1.5 km without stopping. For freediving, you need to be comfortable in the water; we teach the rest.

Is the freediving certification recognised internationally?

Yes. Courses follow AIDA or Molchanovs standards, and your certification is recognised by freediving centres worldwide.

Can I join on my own?

Absolutely. Many guests travel solo, and small groups make it easy to train with like-minded people.

Do I need surf experience?

No. Beginner camps start on soft boards in gentle waves, and coaches group surfers by level so everyone progresses at the right pace. You should be a confident swimmer.

When does sailing start?

Two-person sailing is a later-stage programme. Talk to us to register your interest and be first to hear about launch dates.
