The Kineo Effort Scale

Honest effort ratings, from 1 to 5

Every trip shows its level, plus typical daily distance, elevation and hours, so you know exactly what you're signing up for.

1

Easy

Gentle activity for a few hours a day. Suits anyone in everyday good health.

2

Moderate

Regular activity with some sustained effort. Good if you walk, swim or ride weekly.

3

Active

Moving for most of the day. You'll want a solid base of fitness.

4

Challenging

Long days with real distance or elevation. Plan to train before you travel.

5

Expedition

Sustained hard effort over several days. Prior experience required.

Get trip-fit

Arrive ready to enjoy every day

A little preparation makes a big difference. These are general guidelines; your trip notes include specific advice.

  • Start early: begin training 8–12 weeks before departure for levels 3–5.
  • Train the way you'll move: swim in open water, walk with a loaded pack, or ride back-to-back days.
  • Build gradually: increase distance or time by about 10% a week.
  • Include rest: one or two easy days a week help your body adapt.
  • Test your kit: break in boots, wetsuits and saddles before you travel.
  • Check with your doctor if you have any health condition, or before freediving.

Travel essentials

Before you fly

Visas and passports

Requirements depend on your nationality and destination. The Maldives offers a free 30-day tourist visa on arrival for most visitors. Always check the official government website before you book, and make sure your passport is valid for at least six months.

Travel insurance

Comprehensive travel insurance is required on every Kineo trip. Make sure it covers your activity (for example, freediving depth or high-altitude trekking), medical evacuation and cancellation.

Health

Speak to your doctor or a travel clinic about vaccinations and fitness for your trip. Freediving guests complete a medical declaration before the course.

Flights and arrival

International flights aren't included. Book flights that arrive before the trip's start time; we'll send arrival details and transfer information with your trip notes.
